Daedalus Is Dead (1995)

The violent odyssey of disturbed teenager, Billy Daedalus (Ami Dolenz). She travels along the Pacific coast from Mexico to Monterey attempting to escape the confines of small town life. Tormented by the endless noise in her head, her downward spiral continues with each stranger she meets. Every encounter brings her closer to the truth until she realizes she must return home to repair the wrong that destroyed her life before it ever really began.

Shot in nine days, for $7,000, this short piece embodies the "hitchikers spirit" using 20 locations and as many actors to tell the story of a young girl's rapid decline.

"Daedalus Is Dead" premiered at the British Short Film Festival (1996), took home the award for best dramatic short (1996) in The Sea and Sky Festival in Canada, and was acquired by the Sundance Channel for airing in 1997.
